
“TELEGRAM” Instant messaging Apps have become a popular means of communication between individuals. Fraudsters have targeted application users and managed to develop ways and means to take over or hijack their instant messaging accounts to commit cybercrimes by impersonating them. Users should be aware of these scams and protect themselves against them by implementing the necessary security measures against them.
In this regard, Andaman and Nicobar police have given the following precautionary advise to protect citizens from Telegram interception (Hijacking)
- Make your phone number private
- Never share verification codes with anyone even if you know them.
- Beware of casual and unusual requests received through Telegram or other messaging apps.
- Disable text message notification preview (SMS).
- Anyone who sees the code OTP on your phone can easily hijack your account.
- Enable “two-step verification” to your Telegram channel account.
- Log out of Telegram website/desktop when you stop using it.
Police cyber Team told another important information that if any individual person’s Telegram account has been Hacked or Misused, inform your family and friends that your account has been hacked and ask your friends and relatives to not respond to you messages appears to be from you .
Warn others not to share their verification codes or other information.
