Port Blair, June 11

During an air surveillance sortie on June 6, 2024, ANC’s air asset, a Coast Guard Dornier aircraft noticed a local fishing boat adrift towards the Northeastern direction around 106 NM from Port Blair. The boat was identified as Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Infan Dhas with seven crew members onboard seeking assistance as the boat’s propulsion was not working. Subsequently ANC’s ship, INS Kulish was diverted for rendering assistance to the fishing boat. Kulish arrived at the position of IFB at 0330 hrs on June 7, 2024. During the preliminary engine inspection, the starter battery was found defective.

The non operational battery was replaced by a new battery from INS Kulish and engine running
trials conducted onboard IFB were successful. Thereafter, the IFB was directed to return to
Port Blair under own propulsion.

The swift action in timely assistance of distressed fishing boat Infan Dhas alongwith seven fishermen, reflects dedication and determination of Andaman and Nicobar
Command to assist fishermen at sea when in distress, a press release from ANC said.
