
Agriculture Deptt. to conduct training on microgreen farming & value addition of horticultural crops

Microgreens aret he tender shoots of vegetables and herbs harvested at an early stage of growth, offering a concentrated burst of nutrients and flavours . Apart from this, its ability to thrive in small spaces makes it an ideal solution for urban dwellers and those seeking to cultivate fresh produce in limited areas. Micro green farmers who are transforming rooftops, balconies, and even indoor spaces into vibrant green environment are not only meeting the demand for fresh, nutritious greens but also microgreen farming holds the promise of economic empowerment, providing opportunities for entrepreneurship and community development and high demands in hotels, restaurants etc. and a closer connection between consumers and their food sources.
Considering the importance and to create awareness on microgreen farming, the Department of Agriculture is going to organize training programme on Microgreen Farming for Urban and Rural dwellers, unemployed youths, members of SHGs, farmers, agri entrepreneurs or any interested individuals at the State Bio Control Laboratory (SBCL), Directorate of Agriculture, Haddo, Port Blair.

In addition to that, training programme on value added products of Horticultural crops like preparation of jam, jelly, pickles, squash juice, candies and chips etc will be organized in the Fruit Preservation Unit at Directorate of Agriculture, Haddo, Port Blair for the unemployed youths, members of SHGs, farmers, agri entrepreneurs or any interested individuals.
