A resident of the Islands fell prey to a blackmail scheme via WhatsApp. Initially he received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number. The caller falsely claimed that his son has committed a serious crime and demanded Rs. 45,000/- to avoid registering an FIR. Fearing for his son’s future, the resident paid the amount. The victim later realized it was a fraud. Stay alert and always verify suspicious calls. Report any similar incidents to authorities immediately.
