The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) has initiated Plastic, Reconstructive and Micro-vascular Surgery in GBPH. The addition of this facility is set to revolutionize surgical care in the region, providing advanced surgical solutions for a wide range of trauma, burns and congenital conditions in addition to aesthetic solutions. A qualified Super Specialist Doctor, Dr. PN Suparna has recently been recruited by the Institution for ensuring quality care in the surgical procedures, The introduction of this specialty is a significant milestone for GB Pant Hospital, asit again underscores the commitment of the Administration to deliver comprehensive quality healthcare services to the residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Plastic Surgery Unit is equipped to handle a wide
range of surgical procedures, including:
ï‚¿ Trauma: open fractures involving exposed of fractured bones, injury to neurovascular structures, loss of tissues, tendon injuries, amputation of fingers, crush injury to limbs, maxillofacial trauma (Facial and Nasal Bone fractures).
ï‚¿ Burns: Acute care of burn injuries and surgery for post burn complications like contractures and chronic wounds.
ï‚¿ Congenital defects – Cleft Lip and Palate (defect in the lip and palate), Syndactyly, Polydactyly (extra fingers and toes), Macrodactyly (enlarged fingers/toes).
ï‚¿ Neurovascular injuries and sequelae- Nerve and blood vessel repair, tendon transfers to improve hand function and foot function.
ï‚¿ Reconstruction-Skin grafting, local and free flaps for defects after resection of cancerous or benign tumours.
ï‚¿ Breast reconstruction- after excisions of benign or cancerous conditions ï‚¿ Diabetic foot
ï‚¿ Aesthetic surgeries- surgeries for Rhinoplasty (nose surgery), Gynecomastia (accessory breast in males), accessory breast in female, blepharoplasty, fat grafting for depressed scars, scar revision.
