An awareness programmed was organized on June 8, 2024, at the Zonal Agriculture Office, South Andaman for creating awareness on, Bee Keeping for sustainable livelihood of the farming, community, During the inauguration, the Director of Agriculture, A&N, Administration emphasized the scope, of Beekeeping and, urged the farmer to, venture into this subsidiary activity for, their economic empowerment.
He informed that the beehive boxes will be made available to the beneficiary on subsidy basis and the scientific bee keeping training will be provided to the interested bee keeping farmers/SHG members/young entrepreneurs of A&N Islands. Earlier, welcoming the gathering, the Joint Director (Agri.)i/ c explained about the benefits of bee keeping and also the subsidy extended for bee colonies @ Rs. 800/ colony & for beehive boxes @ Rs 800/box being the 40% subsidy limited to 50colonies & 50 beehive boxes /beneficiary under National
Horticulture Mission Scheme-Pollination Support through Beekeeping. About 35 participants including progressive farmers, SHGs and e n t r e p r e n e u r s attended the awareness programme. Interested beekeeping farmers/ SHGs/ agri. entrepreneurs can enroll their names in the Zonal Agriculture Office, South Andaman for undergoing scientific training on bee keeping for 30 farmers on first-come-first serve basis at the Organic Horticulture Farm, Sippighat tentatively in the last week of June 2024.
